Dillon Amphitheatre Improvement Project

Background:

Each year Dillon Town Council meets to determine priorities for the upcoming year. These priorities are typically set in order to support the goals and objectives outlined in the Town's comprehensive plan, further Economic Development of the Dillon Town Core or to meet a critical need within the community.

Examples of past priorities include but are not limited to; street improvements, park improvements, and Marina improvements. 

The Dillon Amphitheatre Improvement was first prioritized in 2010 and was subsequently put on hold in favour of Marina improvements. Knowing that the Dillon Marina is slated to receive funding from the Colorado River Cooperative Agreement (CRCA), that will allow the Marina to move forward with initiatives included in the Dillon Marina Master Plan, Council chose to re-visit the Amphitheatre project in 2016.

The goal of focusing on the Dillon Amphitheatre lay not only in improving the deteriorating facility, increasing the restroom capacity and improving ADA accessibility; but also leveraging the facility as an economic driver  in order to continue to support the goal of Economic Development in Dillon's Core Area. 

Event surveys show and business owners communicate that Dillon Amphitheatre patrons spend money within the Town of Dillon and events create a positive economic impact. Furthermore, revenue gained through concession sales will offset a portion of the cost of event programming and may be used on other town initiatives. 

  

Goals:


Maintain the culture of the venue 

  • Be conscious of views- locate buildings further downhill
  • Create a contemporary facility
  • Maintain dancing zones while still providing flexibility for programming

Improve patron amenities

  • Reduce slope of lawn seating
  • Improve sight-lines by raising stage
  • Increase restroom fixtures
  • Provide options for concessions
  • Provide a variety of accessible seating options

 Attract a variety of acts (including paid events)

  • Appropriate Dressing & staging/storage areas
  • Ability to host paid events

Offer festival space

  • Provide plaza spaces & zones
  • Flexibility for rental

Improve backstage and functional support

  • Larger green rooms & plumbing fixtures
  • Increased storage
  • Improved loading/unloading capabilities
  • On-site Parks & Maintenance storage
